Horseback Riding, Hiking & More
The surrounding terrain of Acapulco features a large canyon, a river, caves and one of the steepest mountains of the Sierra Madre del Sur range, making Acapulco a desirable Mexico vacation destination for hikers, rock climbers and spelunkers. Equestrians and beginning horseback riders can ride on beautiful beaches and even in the water. Sunset rides along the Pacific here are quite romantic too. The following are great places for enjoying the great outdoors of Acapulco while traveling in Mexico.
- Pueblo Bravo – Several Mexico caves await spelunkers 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) south of Tierra Colorada along route 95.
- Pie de la Cuesta – Located 6 miles (10 kilometers) northeast of the Acapulco Bay, this beach's strong surf is dangerous for swimmers, but the gorgeous sunsets and horseback riding along the seashore are perfection.
- Revolcadero – This is another wonderful beach for horseback riding and sunset viewing.
- Palma Sola and El Veladero National Park – Just 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) north of the city of Acapulco, you can enjoy the walking trails and gardens of the amphitheater that is part of El Veladero National Park. This Mexico National Park protects 7,900 acres in the mountains surrounding Acapulco Bay. Wildlife viewing and bird watching can also be enjoyed in the Park from the hiking and horseback riding trails.
